About Me
I am a fully qualified and HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist with Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) membership.
I have most recently worked in a specialist provision, supporting neurodivergent children and young people aged 5 to 19.
My approach is inclusive, person centred and creative. I use the evidence-base, but always adapt to each young person’s strengths, differences, and experiences. I support every young person to understand and develop communication skills that improve their wellbeing, relationships, and learning. I have experience supporting a range of needs, including situational mutism, and I work collaboratively with families, nurseries, schools, and other professionals to provide consistent and meaningful support.
I am qualified to deliver ELKLAN training and provide professional supervision, having completed the Intandem supervision programme.

My Story
I am a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, trained in Birmingham and practising since 2016, with a dedicated focus on supporting children and young people who are neurodivergent or experience specific speech and language challenges such as Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) and Selective/Situational Mutism.
My practice is grounded in trust, collaboration, and curiosity. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy — instead, I work to co-create communication pathways that are meaningful, affirming, and tailored to each individual’s unique strengths and differences.
My Approach
I believe therapy should focus on:
-
Being trusting, authentic relationships are essential
-
Embedding communication in real-life contexts
-
Making sessions motivating, flexible and person-led
I work across school, home, and community settings to ensure therapy sits within the young person’s world. I aim to create spaces where communication can feel safe, natural, and without pressure.
I work with a diverse range of communication differences. For example, children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), they may struggle to understand and use language, this can impact their confidence and learning in everyday environments. My input focuses on building language skills in ways that relate directly to the child’s life, helping them communicate more clearly and confidently across settings. I also support the wider team (families, education staff and peers) to understand the young person’s profile and how to support them meaningfully.
For young people with Situational Mutism (SM), a phobia of talking or of being heard speaking, which prevents someone from being able to speak in certain situations despite being physically able to do so. This is often influenced by feelings of safety, comfort, and trust rather than an inability to speak. Rather than seeing SM as a problem to be “fixed,” it is important to recognise a neuro-affirming approach and support a meaningful way of communicating that reflects their unique needs and experiences. I prioritise creating trusting and pressure-free environments alongside embedding intervention designed by Maggie Johnson in ways that respect the child’s pace and comfort.
Neuro-Affirming Practice
I’m committed to reflective practice and to continuously learning from the communities I support. I believe neurodiversity is not something to be “treated” — it’s a natural part of human variation. I offer therapy that is inclusive, respectful, and affirming. I believe every young person deserves access to communication that suits who they are — not who others expect them to be.
Key commitments include:
-
Collaborative working with young people, families and settings
-
Strength based support that respects each person’s communication preferences
-
Valuing all forms of communication
-
Supporting identity, autonomy and self-expression
-
Therapeutic relationship

Training and Sharing Practice
Alongside direct therapy, I offer training, workshops and reflective sessions for schools, professionals, and services. I enjoy creating bespoke training that’s hands-on, context-sensitive, and rooted in real-world application.
My aim is to share not just tools, but a mindset — one that centres connection over correction, and curiosity over control. Through training, I hope to help others build more inclusive, affirming spaces where all communicators are supported and valued.
